We are seeing increased traffic and lots of license plates from various states and Canada. There are more activities than you can possibly attend. This weekend there is an Art Festival on St.Armands Key and the Sand Sculpting Competition on Siesta Key which was voted the #1 beach in America for 2011.

Last weekend we went to the Sarasota Chalk Festival. It was so amazing with 250 artists from all over the world. Check out our video.

We were going to write about something weighty this afternoon, like the need for energy-efficient air conditioning, but it’s almost the weekend so let’s do something fun instead.

Let’s go boating.  Sailors love the variable winds on our local waters.  Power boaters love the destinations available as well as the local services they can access. Fishing offers endless entertainment and enjoyment.  Whether you are interested in kayaking, canoeing, power or sail, serious fun awaits you. The constant awareness of boating safety is serious stuff.  Once the basics of boating are accomplished, practice increases the enjoyment.

Our seasonal guests almost ‘expect’ to go boating – or at least spend time at the beach.  The Gulf and bays are a playground of beauty and wonder.  Sarasota boasts 15 boat launching sites as well as being the proud home of “THE #1 BEACH IN AMERICA”!

Access from the various bays to the Gulf is sailed through ‘passes’.  Some passes are deep water, others are shallow.  Most passes change location and direction regularly.  Local knowledge is a must.  Local passes are spaced about 12 to 14 miles apart.

Dancing is a fabulous way for people of all ages to get and stay in shape. In addition to being a lot of fun there are many other positive benefits to dancing. Regular dancing improves the harmony between our mind and body, giving us a sense of well-being and a positive outlook. New experiences enrich our lives – you never know where it can lead – my husband and I met at a dance class in the Sarasota area.

 

 

Dancing is a physical exercise and like other moderate, low-impact activities it can help:

Savor the Sunset in Sarasota

Sarasota Florida is an exciting area in the summer.  Our beaches draw people from everywhere.  Tourists, vacationers and locals enjoy the relaxing and beautiful environment.  The Gulf waters tend to be a little warm this time of year – for the locals that is. 

Our local real estate market continues to heat up.  Home buyers are purchasing properties in Sarasota and Manatee counties at a pace not seen since 2005 which was the peak of our market. Our inventories are at the lowest level they have been for 6 years. We are close to reaching the level that is considered a healthy, balanced market. The best priced properties are scooped up as soon as they hit the market. Many of the fastest selling properties are foreclosures.  This is a great time to invest here since prices have not yet reflected a significant increase. Another one of the buying ‘surges’ has been on waterfront properties.  Buyers in this ‘high end’ market love the bargains currently available. We seem to be very close to recovery with some of the best prices in a decade, excellent interest rates (4.75% for a 30 year mortgage while a 15 year is under 4%)  and a fabulous place to live.

Early Morning Bicycle Ride on The Legacy Trail

Summer in Sarasota also means the best time to get outside is early morning. We were able to do that this morning with a beautiful bike ride. One of our choice places to ride is on the Legacy Trail. The trail is getting a lot of use and it is a wonderful place to enjoy nature while walking, rollerblading, or bicycling.

 The Legacy Trail has a lovely canopy in many places and the trail goes right through the middle of Oscar Scherer State Park which is very lush. The trail itself is one of those trails in the Rails to Trails system that was built where the railroad tracks used to run. In fact one of the old trestle bridges was left in place adjacent to a newly constructed pedestrian bridge. The trail is more than 10 miles long, running from Sarasota to Venice. There are 15 rest stations to stop, relax, and learn about the trail’s history. There are 7 trailheads which offer access points and free parking.

The Legacy Trail links to the Venetian Waterway Park (VWP) at the historic Venice Train Depot at the Venice Avenue Bridge, where trail users can continue south on VWP mainland trail to the Shamrock Park Nature Center or cross the Intercoastal Waterway to the VWP island-side trail and south to Caspersen Beach and Park. It is about 15 miles from the trail’s beginning point near Sawyers Loop Rd. in Sarasota to either of the southern trailheads at Caspersen Beach or Shamrock Park. Tourists are here in droves testing the charm and ambiance. The beaches offer azure colored water views and excellent swimming. Many choose to just relax, read, listen to their ipod music or simply chat with friends.

Theater, arts and (mostly) free concerts are in full swing. Currently Beverly and I have relatives from Georgia visiting. Along with friends from California, they are staying at a wonderful condo which overlooks the Gulf on our heralded “SIESTA BEACH” (rated the # 1 beach in America). It is the second time they stayed on the beach – on other relaxing trips, they stayed in a variety of places, mostly close to golf (easy to do as there are reportedly 93 golf courses within a 25 minute drive from Sarasota).
Last Friday evening after dinner, we took them out for a little fun. We stopped to listen to a free outdoor concert in Venice, an eclectic little community immediately south of Sarasota. After the music, we headed to a ‘wine tasting’ but got sidetracked by a local watering hole ‘Pineapples’ where a live band was playing and people were dancing the day away.
Beverly and I are also happy to announce that the Real Estate inventory continues to decline. That is good news for ‘sellers’ because there is less ‘competition’ for the property they are offering for sale. For ‘buyers’ the good news is that prices have been holding steady at a low level, meaning there are some uber-bargains to be had.

We continue to be very busy in our local market place as this appears to be one of the ‘hotspots’ for real estate in the Country.
